Red was a truly special cat. I will always remember how Red came into the life of his human companion, Sanford. Sanford was in transition and wanted to care for a new cat. However, he lamented, not wanting to start over with a kitten. Before he had time to locate an adult cat, he one day heard soft mewing. On the sidewalk, here came Red, strutting down the street, talking and walking. He walked right up to Sanford’s porch and announced himself proudly. My friend never knew where Red came from or where he was going, but Red just never left. He was very bonded to Sanford and lived far into old age. When I saw Red, he would often be balanced on Sanford’s shoulders, draped over them like a stole. Sanford would leave him there while he went about his business in the garden.
